Highlights

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Snowdonia

After meeting your local hosts at Bangor Station, we’ll head to the awe-inspiring Ogwen Valley.  Here you’ll explore Cwm Idwal. Frequented by Charles Darwin during his studies, this dramatic glacial cirque (cwm in Welsh) boasts unique rock formations and rare plant life. It’s the perfect introduction to the amazing Welsh scenery you’ll encounter throughout your tour.

We’ll end the day at Plas Dinas, your elegant country house hotel, once the home of Lord Snowdon. This evening enjoy your first taste of exquisite Welsh cuisine in their renowned Gunroom restaurant.

Today we explore the charming village of Beddgelert and its surroundings. Your guided walk offers a perfect balance of challenge and reward. From serene lakes to ancient wooded valleys, each step reveals a different side to Snowdonia’s natural beauty. Cap off your day with a scenic train ride on the heritage Welsh Highland Railway back to your hotel.

For dinner, we’ll visit a favourite local restaurant on the nearby island of Anglesey.

This morning we leave behind the rugged mountains of North Wales as we make our way to the ancient market town of Cardigan.

En route, we’ll stop for a hike along the Precipice Trail, for a final, breathtaking glimpse of Snowdonia.

Lunch in the historic town of Dolgellau provides a taste of local Welsh flavors before we continue our journey south.

As you settle into Cardigan, known for its vibrant arts scene, you’ll feel the distinct shift in Wales’ cultural landscape.

You’ll have the evening free to explore and find a nice spot for dinner.

Prepare for a day of captivating coastal views as we explore one of the most scenic stretches of the Wales Coast Path.

The walk is a bit challenging in places, but you’ll be rewarded with spectacular scenery.

Soak in the views of the Irish Sea, as you keep an eye out for seabirds and maybe even seals. Beautiful wildflowers carpet parts of the route in spring and summer. Peregrine falcons can be seen at eye level, hunting for prey above some of the tall cliffs.

Tonight you’ll be treated to a casual dinner at a Michelin-recognised restaurant celebrating local Welsh produce.

Our journey continues on to Pembrokeshire, where we take a break from hiking and head out to sea for a fantastic marine wildlife tour. We’ll cruise around Ramsey Island, an RSPB reserve, and get up close to the spectacular coastal scenery. Our friendly, expert guides will share details about the wildlife you’ll encounter, as well as telling tales of shipwrecks, legends and history.

The afternoon we’ll spend time in lovely St Davids, the UK’s smallest city, where you can explore its magnificent cathedral.

We’ll stay tonight in the peaceful Pembrokeshire countryside, with dinner at our hotel.

Our last full day sees us set out on a lovely, varied walk through the National Trust’s Stackpole Estate. You’ll enjoy some spectacular cliff-top scenery, fabulous sandy beaches and a wander alongside the famous Bosherston Lily Ponds. It’s a fantastic hike to round off our trip.

For dinner, you’re in for a treat at a Michelin Green Star restaurant, where innovative Welsh cuisine meets sustainability. A fitting finale to your Quintessential Wales journey.

Before your Welsh adventure draws to an end, we’ll visit the picturesque town of Tenby, with its pastel-coloured houses, medieval town walls and pretty harbour.

If time allows we can stop at the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery for an insight into Wales’ emerging spirits industry.

Then we’ll drop you off at Swansea station, sending you home with wonderful memories of Wales’ natural beauty, rich history, and warm hospitality.

How challenging are the walks?

The hikes on this tour vary from easy to challenging. Most days involve 3-7 miles of walking over varied terrain, including some steep and uneven paths. Don’t worry—we can provide hiking poles to make your journey easier and we’ll walk at a relaxed pace, allowing plenty of time to soak in the scenery. Our expert guides will be with you every step of the way. You’ll find detailed information about each day’s hike in your final itinerary.

The best part? As this is a private tour we can adjust the walks to suit your abilities, however a good level of fitness is recommended to fully enjoy this tour.

Pack comfortable walking boots or hiking shoes, a waterproof / windproof jacket, layered clothing, and a daypack. We’ll provide a detailed packing list in your travel information pack.

For most of the trip, we can accommodate various dietary requirements if you let us know when you book. However, on the final night, we visit a restaurant that offers a unique dining experience where some dietary requirements may not be accommodated. In such cases, we’re happy to make alternative arrangements to make sure you have an equally enjoyable meal. Please discuss any specific dietary needs with us when you book to make sure we can provide the best possible experience throughout your tour.

Our tours run from Mid April to Mid October. Each season offers unique charms, from spring wildflowers to autumn colours. Our favourite season for walking is Spring (from the end of April to early June). Keep in mind that British schools break for summer in mid July until the end of August, so expect places to be busier during this time.
