Your Itinerary

Day One

We begin in Shrewsbury, a charming old market town near the Welsh border. From there, we’ll take a scenic 90-minute drive through the beautiful Welsh countryside to reach Snowdonia National Park (known as Eryri in Welsh).

To kick off your adventure, we’ll enjoy a scenic walk along the picturesque Precipice Walk—despite its name, it’s neither scary nor too strenuous.

Afterward, it’s just a short drive to your hotel, a historic Victorian mansion perched above the Mawddach Estuary at the base of the rugged Cadair Idris. Blending comfort and style, this elegant retreat is the perfect place to unwind. Once you’ve settled into your room, you’ll enjoy a delicious three-course dinner at the hotel’s highly regarded restaurant.

Walk details: 3.25 miles (5.5 km), approx 2 hours, uneven rocky path with a short uphill section at the start.
Meals Included: 3 course A La Carte dinner
Stay: Penmaenuchaf
On our first full day, we’ll take a leisurely walk along the scenic Mawddach Trail. Starting from our hotel, we follow an old railway path along the beautiful Mawddach Estuary. This flat, well-maintained trail is perfect for an easygoing hike.

Our walk concludes at the seaside town of Barmouth, where we’ll cross the historic Barmouth Bridge. This wooden viaduct, built during the Victorian era, offers stunning views of the estuary and surrounding landscape.

In the afternoon, you’ll have some free time to relax or explore the 20 acres of attractive gardens surrounding the hotel. Later, we’ll enjoy dinner at a cosy local pub.

Walk details: 7 miles (10.5 km), 3-4 hours, flat, gravel path.
Meals Included:Breakfast, picnic lunch & pub dinner
Stay: Penmaenuchaf
After a delicious Welsh breakfast, we’ll head north to explore the historic streets of Harlech and its impressive castle.

From there, it’s a short drive to the whimsical village of Portmeirion, designed by Sir Clough William-Ellis. With its charming Italian-inspired architecture you might feel as though you've stepped into a village on the Mediterranean. Portmeirion is perhaps best known as the backdrop for the cult 1960s TV series The Prisoner. We’ll take time to explore the village and enjoy a stroll through The Gwyllt, a 70-acre sub-tropical forest filled with rare plants and stunning views.

Next, we’ll make our way to Plas Dinas, an elegant country house that was once the home of Lord Snowdon. Now an inviting hotel, it features beautifully appointed rooms and lovely grounds.

Later, you’ll have the opportunity to experience a unique Welsh tradition by attending a rehearsal of the Caernarfon Male Voice Choir.

Meals Included: Breakfast & 3 course lunch
Stay: Plas Dinas
Today, our walk follows a scenic section of the Snowdonia Slate Trail, an easy path that winds through the beautiful Gwyrfai Valley. If the weather is clear, you’ll be treated to views of the summit of Snowdon (Y Wyddfa in Welsh).

Our walk concludes in Beddgelert, a charming mountain village rich in character and legend. You'll have time to explore the village and enjoy some well-earned refreshments at a local café or pub.

This evening, we’ll take a short drive to the island of Anglesey (Ynys Môn), where you’ll enjoy dinner at a lovely local restaurant.

Walk details: 5 miles (8 km), approx 3 hours, gravel path and forest trails

This morning, we’ll set out early and head to Llanberis to catch the Snowdon Mountain Railway to the summit of Y Wyddfa (Snowdon). As the train climbs the mountain, you’ll be treated to fantastic views and discover the mountain’s hidden secrets—passing viaducts, waterfalls, gorges, and the remnants of abandoned farms, chapels, and medieval settlements.

In the afternoon, we’ll take a scenic drive through the Ogwen Valley to explore Cwm Idwal, an impressive glacial cirque (or ‘cwm’ in Welsh). This dramatic landscape, once studied by Charles Darwin, is known for its unique rock formations and rare plant life.

Tonight you’ll be treated to dinner at the hotel’s Gunroom Restaurant, where the gourmet menu showcases the freshest seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.

When to Go

Our favourite times to visit Snowdonia are in spring when the days are longer, the weather is mild, and wildflowers are in full bloom. September is another fantastic time to visit, as the crowds thin out and the mountains become covered in vibrant purple heather.

Snowdonia tends to be busier on weekends and during the UK school holidays (mid July to the end of August), so we recommend avoiding these periods if possible.

While our tours offer flexibility in start dates, we suggest beginning this tour on a Sunday.

The tour is designed for those who enjoy being active. The walks outlined in this trip are classed as easy to moderate. Some of the terrain is rocky and uneven underfoot. There are short sections of uphill to access the Precipice Walk and Cwm Idwal, but nothing too strenuous. Daily walks range from 2 to 7 miles (3.25 to 11 km), taking between 2 and 5 hours. As this is a private tour, walks can be adjusted to cater to your fitness and abilities.

This is a private tour, exclusively for you and your travel companions.

The final price is based on your group size and is per person, assuming double or twin occupancy. Single rooms can be arranged for an additional supplement.
